And drop-ins are ALWAYS free on this Olympic size outdoor rink.

AND we're encouraged to drink beer.

Our fancy "pond"

Drop-ins are $3 at this amazing, top of the line, full size rink with 8 locker rooms...how much are drop-ins in Moscow, again????

Palouse Hockey 2009-2010

On the verge of the 2009-2010 season's inaugural skate Sunday in Lewiston, I thought I would drop by the blog, update the community with recent announcements, address a few rumors, and discuss a few issues which are pissing me off...

First, I would like to welcome everyone in our blog community back for another exciting year on the Palouse.

Community announcements:

- Lewiston's rink will be open this weekend. Hence, Kuzyk will be assembling a crew of Pullscow hockey gypsies to compete against the elite members of the Lewiston hockey community. Due to Childers outragously idiotic behavior he is assigned the duty of bringing beer. (Nothing less than a half-rack will suffice Childo.)

- There is also a ref seminar on Saturday Sept. 26 th in Lewiston. No word yet on if John O'Dowd is bringing the beers...

- Rachel Veseth is officially back as PIR hockey director. AWESOME NEWS HUH?!

Rumors and innuendo:

- The official site of the 2009-2010 Palouse Pond Hockey Classic has NOT been officially announced.

I can confirm that Priest Lake, ID is being considered but I would like to remind everyone that no formal decision has been reached.

As a member of the planning committee I can tell you we are investigating hundreds if not thousands of locations world wide to hold this monumental event.

- I will personally verify that I have slept with Julie Edwards. It was glorious.

- Childers is being a pussy and won't attempt to play in the "A" League this season.

- Hammer really did bring my Ahi tuna back to life when I saw him in McCall, ID.

Annoying bullshit:

- What is the deal with having "A" League games only on Friday and Saturday nights?!

- Former blog administrator Zack Thurmond has NOT yet provided me with the password to set up new polls. Absolutely ridiculous...

More updates to come...

Max and Julie...........

Who would have thought????

Well with the new season about to start I thought I would bring this thing back to life.....Plus I knew it would PISS Max off that I could post something and he can't.

So there has been talk of a new location for the Palouse Pond Hockey Classic this year. I am thinking that T-Jay's idea of having it up north would be great. I think we could get a bunch of people to head up there for the weekend sometime and play a bit of PUCK. Let's try to plan on it at some point later in the season. I know I am going to need some time away from Moscow later in the school year.

Oh and to all of you Fuckers who were "too busy" to help with the addition and roof last weekend......PUCK YOU! Thanks to Andy for sticking it out ALL day on Saturday. We didn't get off the roof until after 9:30. Andy....Beers are on me next time!

Post-pancake pond puck

The official word out of Deary is that the pond is "a beauty". I make a motion that we, um, play hockey on it tomorrow. I further propose that, weather permitting, we have an effing tournament next weekend.

Pancake breakfast to support the Palouse Ice Rink

February 14th, 8-10 AM @ Applebee's. I like pancakes. JD is bringing the eggs. Who's going to be my date???

New Poll, so shut up already.

Which of our baby-faced friends should be the next to get all Harold Snepsts? (click the link, morons)
You will notice that
a) I mercifully left Max off the list, because it has been shown that he lacks the follicular fortitude to grow anything but plants, and
b) T-Jay is on the list, simply because he is the only one who might actually grow a Snepts-ian stache should he win the Poll.
Happy voting.

Seriously.

What type of person goes to the grocery store, buys a bunch of eggs drives to the bar, and requests the staff to cook them for him?

Special thanks to Erin and the rest of the Alehouse staff. You guys are the best.

New Poll!

The mystery must be solved.

Quote of the day

So it has been a while since I have had a room mate and there are some things that I miss about having one around. There are always the little things that happen now and then that make you angry or make you smile. Last night I had one of those moments when you can't help but smile....

It was about 2:30 in the morning and I had 2 individuals enter my home in what appeared to be a drunken stupor. I awoke to the front door opening and the dogs jumping from the bed to greet my guests. There was a lot of "whispering" going on between the two individuals. I didn't want to cause any commotion so I stayed in bed where I was comfortably resting and just listened. That was when I heard:

"I don't care if JD sees me come out of your room in the morning. I just really want to be here with you tonight."

I can't confirm the source of this statement although I have a pretty good idea who it is. There was some other talk....mostly in "whispered" tones ( and by "whispered" we all know how quiet that can be when drunk).......It was worth missing some sleep to hear the conversations without leaving the comforts of my bed. Hey, I wasn't trying to listen....They woke me up and my house is TINY!

Here's to having a room mate again!

Board of Directors

I believe it is in the best interest of the IFLH Board of Directors to convene once more and discuss the possibility of a playing some pond hockey. It has been brought to my attention this week (a couple of times) by Canada Rhett that the pond may be in playable condition this weekend. I am proposing that the board meet this week on Friday evening following the 6:25 Mary Janes- Bruins game to discuss plans about hosting the IFLH Pond Hockey Classic. Shall we say approx. 7:45 PM at the Alehouse???????

Also on the agenda is the topic of teams rosters, names and logos.

Max's Team?

Childer's Team?

New Poll!

Max, as a "fuckin' botanist", I'm sure you will have a strong opinion about this one.
Has anyone looked at the pond lately?

Chiefs Game Saturday

The Chiefs are at home on Saturday night against Tri-Cities. It's buck night. That means $1 hot dogs, popcorn and Coca-Cola products all night long. Available tickets are between $8 and $16. We can get them together online at TicketsWest. Rose and I are going and have a Subaru that will carry 5 total peeps (4 if we need to bring Thurmonds goalie gear). Any takers?

Sunday, January 18, 2009

Oh yeah......

I guess a congrats goes out to Canada Rhett for popping the question........he now has one of those fancy words for "girlfriend with a rock"........what is that called again.....a DEATH SENTENCE? Guess the picture in front of the fireplace worked.

If CHILDERS can do it - Why can't Max????

Seriously folks.......Childers can grow a stache but kliMAXx can't?

Spokane Chiefs

The Spokane Chiefs are set to take on the Tri-City Americans next Saturday, Jan. 24th @ 7:00 PM. Which begs the question: Who is man enough to drive up to Spokane for the game?

-MF

P.S. I think if we present Mr. Thurmond's Palouse "C" League Stats to WHL commissoner they might be flexible with the age rule thingy. Just a thought.

Seriously who takes these pictures?

This is worse than Max's backhand.

Update

Here is a picture of the current state of the rink.........water around the edges and ice in the middle. We will just have to see what Mother Nature brings this week. It has been cold enough that the middle is staying pretty frozen but with all of the edges opened up we will need wet suits under our hockey gear to get out to play. The good news is that if it stays cold enough we will have a much bigger rink to play on instead of the one that we shoveled out last week.

Hope for the best.

Max and the Stache........

Something to AIM for:

I think it could be this good if Max tried hard enough.......sure would beat his backhand. I think Max would gain SO MUCH respect at the rink if he would just grow it out. Just think of all of the respect that everyone has for the red beard. The doctors come running down the hall at Quick Care when they think ol' red beard is there injured. It is all about the facial hair. Think about Canada Rhett and that little patch of fuzz he has on his chin.......more respect than those with no facial hair. Just goes to show.......
TIME TO GROW THE STACHE!

New Poll! And last week's results.

Last week's poll confirmed that Max and JD are equally deficient in their hockey skills.

All For NOT?

So with the snow that fell last night......and a snow day for what appeared to be the ENTIRE city of Moscow, a few of us decided that it was in the best interest of the IFLH Pond Hockey Classic to go out to the pond and shovel the snow yet one more time. After spending countless hours the past 2 days the 4 of us (Canada Rhett, George the Gringo, Half Baked T-Jay, and the Short Fat Kid) made the trek out to Deary and down to the pond again today. We thought we might be in good shape with a good freeze last night but apparently it snowed slush instead of the fluffy white shit. There was another good 4-8 inches of standing water under that fluffy stuff. After some debate it was decided that it was in OUR best interest to clear out the snow and leave all of the slush to mother nature......let's see what that bitch brings this week. Hopefully with with the warmer weather this week, we will get a nice melt and settle all of the slush into a swimming pool that may or may not freeze by the weekend.

Damn this SUCKS!

Short Fat Kid, Half-Baked, Gringo

On another note:

I am still not sure that Max LOVES hockey. I am sure that he may admire it or even really LIKE it but I haven't seen the commitment that shows how much he LOVES hockey. Rhett, David, Childers, and I all made it to hockey tonight after getting the F-150 stuck yet AGAIN- this time at Childer's place. Hey doesn't that P.O.S. have 4WD? Max had some lame excuse like his truck was stuck too..... He also isn't seen in ANY of the photos since he hasn't been out to shovel yet.......Max, how much do you really LOVE hockey?

This is why I love hockey. It's also how i'm going to start playing in the C-league.

Watch the whole thing. It's well worth it.

Just so Max knows how much fun he missed to go watch plants grow

Seriously, doesn't this look like more fun than botany? It was. We swear.

We had beer. And hotdogs.

Ice Prep

The preparations are officially "well underway". After 30+ man-hours of shoveling, the rink is almost a rink. And, to the best of everyone's knowledge, Max did not have booze with his breakfast this morning.

The Ice Crew.. (L to R, Zack, George, David, JD, Andy, Matt, Canadian Rhett. Not pictured: Max "I have work to do" Feldman). PBR boxes make excellent tripods.

the view from the house. It's bigger than it looks.

How many hockey players does it take to dig out an F-150?

Five. The answer is five hockey players. Plus some guy with a Suburban. Thanks, Rhett.

Tournament training regimen

Because I'm so fucking fat and soft after my vacation I will definately be skating tomorrow @ 9 AM. While I am there I will personally give everyone present a tutorial on hard, back-handed love then retire to a breakfast joint of Andy Norton's choice to eat a healthy breakfast of egg whites, whole wheat toast, and delicious fruit slices (probably pinapple). I will also drink a delicious cup of coffee and a nutritious tall glass of orange juice with extra pulp and NO BOOZE.

Well... no promises on the booze.

Weekly poll.

Check out the new weekly poll in the sidebar! JD and max, you are allowed to vote for yourselves.

IFLH official blog.

Preparations are well underway for the inaugural IFLH Palouse Pond Hockey Classic, to be held at Rhett's pond at some point in the winter of 2009. Maybe "well underway" is a stretch, but there has been much discussion of the T-shirt logo and the type and quanity of beer we plan to consume...so we clearly have our priorities straight.
Below are some shirt designs that JD came up with when he should have been teaching shop class.

As for beer, I think it's best if we appoint an official Ale House liaison to con some beer out of them. I nominate Andy, because he's the only respectable one in the bunch.
Most of us are familiar with the IFLH, but those of you who aren't should speak to Max. He'll be happy to fill you in.
More updates and photos to come. Hopefully. Provided it stops raining.

And no, that isn't a picture of Rhett's pond in the header. But it's a fucking sweet pond.
